Caption: Curiosity rover on Mars. Colour-enhanced satellite image of NASA's Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars. This rover, part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on 6 August 2012. The rover is at centre right, with visible wheel tracks showing its movements from its landing area (blue patch). The colour enhancement shows colour variations from blast impacts at landing which revealed darker basaltic sands below the surface dust. Image obtained in September 2012 by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite. North is at top.
