Caption: Spiral galaxy NGC 6744, optical image. This large spiral galaxy is similar to the Milky Way. It is located around 30 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Pavo. Red shows the glow coming from hydrogen gas. This image, from the Wide Field Imager on the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at La Silla, Chile, was published in 2011.
