Caption: Spondylodiscitis. Coloured sagittal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the thoracic (chest) spine of a patient with inflammation of the spine. This is spondylodiscitis, inflammation of the vertebrae (spinal bones, blocks) and the intervertebral discs. The inflamed area is pressing on the spinal cord (pink), which causes severe pain. Spondylodiscitis is often caused by infection and treatment is with antibiotics and rest.
