Caption: Daramona Observatory, Westmeath, Ireland. This observatory was operated by Irish astronomer William Edward Wilson (1851-1908). It was built in his family residence (Daramona House) where he had been born and raised by his parents. The dome at centre was erected to house a 12-inch reflecting telescope acquired in 1871. This telescope was replaced in 1881 with a 24-inch Grubb reflector. Astronomical research and observations carried out here included solar studies and astrophotography, including photographs of the Moon and nebulae. Published in 'Astronomical and Physical Researches' (1900).
