Caption: Soloviev and Hilleman, vaccine researchers, talking at a conference. At left is Soviet physician Valentin Dmitrievich Soloviev (1907-1986). At right is US microbiologist Maurice Ralph Hilleman (1919-2005). Soloviev specialised in the development and use of polio vaccines. Hilleman developed over 36 vaccines, including those for measles, mumps, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, chickenpox, meningitis, pneumonia and influenza. Photographed in 1966, in Washington DC, USA.
