Multiple amputee. A 52 year old man who lost his right hand and both lower legs following bacterial meningitis. His left hand has contracted into a claw-like position. Infections of Neisseria meningitidis can cause petechial rashes (bleeding beneath the skin. These can rapidly become gangrenous requiring amputation of the affected tissue.
