Caption: Electrochemical sensor production. Synthetic diamond chip on the end of a matchstick. This diamond will be used to make a chemical sensor used in the manufacture of electrochemical microsystems intended for biological applications. These sensors use diamonds as they are the only known inert material that is also a semiconductor, and it is this property that makes them suitable for use in and around biological systems.
