Caption: Spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) at their den. This is the largest and most powerful of all the hyenas. It lives alone or in family groups, feeding on the carcasses of large herbivores. Females dominate males within the social structure. This hyena is found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, in savannah and open grassland. Photographed in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
