Caption: Sun and Moon astrology. 16th-century artwork of astrologers observing the Sun (left) and the Moon (right) to cast horoscopes. Astrology, the belief that planetary motions influence human lives, motivated studies of the heavens that would later develop into astronomy. Astrology was found in many ancient civilisations, including Babylon, Greece, Egypt and Rome. Early astronomers, such as Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, would also cast horoscopes for their clients. The scene depicted here dates from 1543.
