Caption: Artery damage. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) scan of the neck of a 23-year-old male motorcycle crash victim. Dissection of the right internal carotid artery (left) has resulted in narrowing of the proximal right internal carotid artery. This is a result of damage to the muscular layers within the wall of the vessel. Arterial blood is forced between the muscular lining, causing the narrowing. These injuries, along with the severe brain injuries sustained, proved fatal.
