Caption: SpaceX Dragon capsule. Dragon un-manned partially reusable spacecraft being launched onboard a Falcon 9 rocket. Falcon 9 and the Dragon capsule were designed and manufactured by the private space transportation company SpaceX under the NASA COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services) initiative, set up to encourage private companies to ship cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) after the retirement of the shuttle program in 2011. On 25th May 2012 Dragon became the first commercial spacecraft to successfully rendezvous with and be attached to the ISS. Photographed at Launch Complex 40, Cape Canaveral, USA, on 22nd May 2012.
