Caption: Diffraction experiment. Simulation showing properties of the interference pattern that results when a plane wave (top) passes through two small holes in a barrier (across top). The two concentric elementary waves that result are shown as: (1) an amplitude value distribution (red and yellow), with the amplitude value increasing from transparent via red and yellow towards white; (2) the intensity distribution (blue and pink) at a certain distance parallel to the aperture. This blue-pink plane, partly obscured, is visible at lower right. The intensity increases from black via blue towards pink. An alternative representation is at C014/7185.
