Caption: Diffraction experiment. Simulation showing properties of four interference patterns from a plane wave (top in each image) passing through two thin slits in a barrier. The patterns that result are shown as: (1) an amplitude value distribution (red and yellow), with the amplitude value increasing from transparent via red and yellow towards white; (2) the intensity distribution (which increases from blue towards pink) at a certain distance parallel to the apertures. (3) The intensity distribution at the same distance, but plotted as a curve (green). The wavelength decreases from upper left to upper right to lower left.
