Caption: Pinned broken elbow. Stapled elbow wound following treatment of a broken elbow by insertion of metal pins and a plate. This injury was a posterior fracture-dislocation of the oleacranon of the right elbow. The olecranon is the bony protrusion formed by the proximal (upper) end of the ulna, the larger of the two lower arm bones. The plate and screws (not seen) hold the bone together as it heals. The staples hold the overlying skin and tissue together as they heal. Two skin abscesses are at lower left. For a series of X-rays and photographs of this injury, see C014/7724 to C014/7728.
