Caption: Coronary artery blockage. Coloured angiogram of the coronary arteries (orange) of a patient that has had a heart attack (myocardial infarction). The arrow indicates where the blood flow has been cut-off, due to arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The heart muscle starved of blood, and therefore oxygen, will die, leading to the severe pain of a heart attack. Angiograms are X-rays of radio-opaque dye injected into the bloodstream.
