Caption: Fly struggles to free itself from spider web as black widow (Latrodectus hesperus) attempts to find it. Female black widows of this species have leg spans of approximately 4 cm and are distinguished by the bright red hourglass pattern on the underside of the abdomen. While probably the most feared spider, black widows are not aggressive and their bites are rarely fatal to humans.
