Caption: Lymphoblastic sarcoma. Light micrograph of blood cells from bone marrow in a case of lymphoblastic sarcoma. These small lymphoblasts (dark red) characteristically have conspicuous nucleoli. Lymphoblasts are immature forms of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are an important component of the immune system. Sarcomas are a form of cancer that arise from various tissues including blood-producing tissues such as bone marrow. The surrounding cells are red blood cells (pale orange).
