Caption: USS Alabama, World War II battleship. Three of the nine 16-inch/45 calibre Mark 6 guns on the US Navy's USS Alabama. Launched and commissioned in 1942, this ship was built at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Virginia, USA. It carried a crew of 1793, and was equipped with 75 naval guns of various sizes. It saw action in World War II, mostly in the Pacific sphere of battle. The ship and crew were awarded nine US Navy battle stars. The ship was decommissioned in 1947, and struck from the naval register in 1962. It was turned into a museum ship, permanently moored at Battleship Memorial Park, Mobile, Alabama, USA, opening in 1965. It was made a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
