Caption: Aftermath of Hurricane Irene. Damaged palm trees the morning after Hurricane Irene in the Bahamas. This Category 3 hurricane lasted from 21 to 30 August 2011. It made several landfalls on the Bahamas as it moved through the eastern Caribbean, reaching peak strength on its approach on 24 August with wind speeds of over 190 kilometres per hour. It caused extensive damage on several islands in the Bahamas, but no fatalities. It weakened as it moved northwards, causing extensive damage and over 40 deaths along the eastern seaboard of the USA. Photographed on 26 August 2011, at Hope Town, in the Bahamas.
