Caption: Space station museum. View of life-size models of various Russian space stations. In the centre is the main module of the Mir space station attached to the Kvant-1 module (left). At right is a Kristall science module. Mir ('peace') was in orbit between 1986 and 2001. It was expanded with the addition of many extra modules filled with experiments or crew quarters. Kvant-1 ('quantum') was an astrophysics module, carrying ultraviolet and x-ray telescopes and similar instruments. Kristall ('crystal') was a materials science research laboratory. Photographed at the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Centre.
