Caption: Space Station. Launch of the Zarya module, the first element of the International Space Station, on a Proton rocket on 20 November 1998. Zarya ('Dawn'), also known as the Functional Cargo Block or FCB, provided power and life support for the early stages of construction of the ISS. Since later modules have been added, Zarya is now used mainly for storage.
