Caption: Alpha-beta T-cell receptor, molecular model. The T cell receptor (TCR) is a protein complex found on the surface of a type of white blood cell called T lymphocytes (or T cells). It interacts with antigens bound to molecules from the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) family. This makes this protein complex a key component of the process whereby T cells are activated as part of the body's immune system. This form of TCR is the heterodimer consisting of an alpha and beta chain, as opposed to the much rarer gamma and delta chains.
