Caption: White rhinoceros killed by poachers, Kwenga Lodge Private Game Reserve, South Africa. This dead white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) was shot by poachers who then removed its horns. Tissue was removed from behind the head for forensic examination to source the bullet. Rhinoceros horns are illegally poached and sold for use as ornaments and traditional medicines.
