Caption: Comet PanSTARRS over telescope dome. Evening view from Roque de los Muchachos Observatory of Comet PanSTARRS (C/2011 L4, upper left) over the dome of the William Herschel Telescope. Discovered in June 2011 with the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii, this comet reached perihelion on 10 March 2013. The New Moon is on the horizon at centre right, with high-altitude clouds and the sunset glow. This telescope dome is located at an altitude of 2400 metres on La Palma, the Canary Islands, enabling views obscured by clouds for those at lower altitudes. The light on the dome is from a passing car. Photographed on 12 March 2013.
