Caption: Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring results over a 24-hour period. This allows regular measurement of a patient's blood pressure, avoiding the effect where blood pressure rises when measured in a clinical setting. The blue shaded area is the night period. The upper red line is systolic pressure (Sys), while the lower red line is diastolic pressure (Dia). A typical healthy reading is 120/80 millimetres of mercury (mmHg). The pulse in beats per minute (bpm) is the lower grey line. The time of day is across bottom. A fall in blood pressure at night is normal. For additional data from such monitoring, see image C015/4026.
