Lung cancer. Combined computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of the lungs of an 84 year old woman with a malignant (cancerous) tumour (bright patch) in the apex of the right lung (left). The main cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoke. Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath and a cough. Treatment is with a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
