Caption: Local anaesthetic drug. Box containing EMLA (eutectic mixture of local anaesthetics), an anaesthetic preparation of lidocaine and prilocaine. EMLA is used for dermal anaesthesia. Specifically it is applied to prevent pain associated with intravenous catheter insertion, blood sampling, superficial surgical procedures, and topical anaesthesia of leg ulcers for cleansing. It can also be used to numb the skin before tattooing, electrolysis and laser hair removal.
