Caption: Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) adult and calf. The short-finned pilot whale, which is found throughout the world's temperate and tropical waters, is actually a large dolphin. When born, a pilot whale weighs around 100 kilograms and feeds on its mother's milk. Later, it feeds on fish, squid and octopus, and can grow to 4 to 6 metres in length and a weight of 1.5 tons. Photographed in the Atlantic Ocean, south-west of Tenerife, the Canary Islands.
