Caption: Breguet telegraphy. 19th-century diagram of early telegraphs with the title referencing the French physicist Louis-Francois-Clement Breguet (1804-1883) who was a pioneer in this field. He and Alphonse Foy developed the electrical needle telegraph in 1842, with further work in 1847. Diagram from 'Traite de telegraphie electrique' (1849) by French Catholic priest and physicist Francois Napoleon Marie Moigno (1804-1884).
