Caption: Danford iris in UV light. Coloured photograph of a Danford iris, also known as a dwarf iris (Iris danfordiae) seen under ultraviolet (UV) light. This image was captured using a camera adapted to filter and detect UV light. The resulting monochrome image was coloured on a computer. Yellow indicates areas of high UV reflectance, pink and green denotes areas of low UV reflectance. It is thought that patterns visible in UV light attract pollinating insects. These patterns are known as nectar guides. See image B816/591 for same flower in normal daylight.
