Caption: Animation of Vorticella sp. protozoa feeding. This protozoan feeds by using hair-like cilia around the cap of its bell to waft food particles towards its central mouth. Each individual Vorticella has a contractile stalk called a myoneme, which is used to jerk it towards its substrate when threatened. Vorticella are widely distributed in freshwater environments worldwide, and feed mainly on aquatic bacteria. Original same as master.
