Caption: Surface to air missile test. Trails left by a surface-to-air missile (SAM) and a target aircraft during an interception test in 1965. The track of the missile runs from lower left to top right, the target drone aircraft entered the frame at top right and was hit by the warhead and exploded. The missile tracked the target using radar. Missiles of this era had explosive warheads surrounded by ball bearings or similar shrapnel that gave them a wide zone of destruction.
