Caption: Edward Stone (born 1936), American space scientist. Stone was the project scientist for the Voyager spacecraft missions to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, and is professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched from the Kennedy Space Center on September 5th and August 20th 1977, respectively. Both craft flew past Jupiter and Saturn. Voyager 1 then headed out of the Solar System while Voyager 2 went on to encounter Uranus (in January 1986) and Neptune (August 1989).
