Caption: Sperm competition research. Researcher carrying out an experiment that involves mixing sperm from two different men (condoms in background). This is intended to test the hypothesis that the sex cells (spermatozoa) from one man would adversely affect those from another man. This is an aspect of what is known as sperm competition. These theories were popularised by Robin Baker in his 1996 book 'Sperm Wars'. The results of such experiments are also used in studies on infidelity.
