Caption: Woodturning craftsman in India. 19th-century artwork from India showing a woodworker (top) using a lathe to shape wooden objects, a process known as woodturning. The object being shaped is fixed between the two spindle points and rotated using the spinning reel and string. An array of woodworking tools are shown across bottom, including chisels, planes, and saws. This opaque watercolour, in the Kashmir style, dates from the 1850s.
