Caption: Metal token for redeeming the bearer a box (of pills). Tokens such as these were used as an alternative currency and were exchanged for goods. Tokens were made of cheaper, lighter metals and were of lower value than money. They also served as advertisements for the merchant's products. This token is of English origin and dates from the nineteenth century.
