Caption: Goliath in battle. 11th-century artwork of the giant Philistine warrior Goliath, with sword and shield, wielding a spear during a battle. According to the biblical story (Books of Samuel), Goliath is killed by a young David, the future king of Israel. The battle was said to have taken place in the Valley of Elah, in around the 11th century BC. Artwork from the Tiberius Psalter (Winchester, circa 1050).
