Caption: Cupping set dating from around the year 1860, England. This set comprises of four cups, two brass and steel scarificators, and a spirit burner. Cupping sets such as this one would have been used in a procedure called 'wet cupping', a form of bloodletting used in the nineteenth century to 'treat' a range of ailments by removing surplus bodily 'humours' (fluids within the body).
