Caption: Australian aborigines. 18th-century artwork of two Australian aborigine warriors brandishing a shield and weapons. They are described as natives of New Holland, the name for the land later known as Australia. Engraving by Thomas Chambers, based on an artwork drawn by British artist Sydney Parkinson (c.1745-1771) on Captain James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific. Engraving published in 'A Journal of a Voyage to the South Seas in His Majesty's ship the Endeavour' (1773).
