Caption: As the Sun nears the horizon around sunset, or shortly after sunrise, its upper limb can turn a vivid green, owing to atmospheric refraction effects. This phenomenon, alled the green rim, is rarely seen without optical aid. It is quite common at a magnification. Notice also the inferior mirage effect at the base of the Sun, which becomes distorted, forming an Omega-shaped Sun.
