Caption: Express passenger train design. 19th-century design drawings for an engine (locomotive) for an express passenger train for the Great Northern Railway (GWR). They are by Patrick Stirling (1820-1895), a GWR locomotive superintendent (chief mechanical engineer) from Doncaster, England. They were published as a Working Drawings supplement to the 29 September 1871 issue of 'The Engineer'.
