Caption: A molecular model of selenocysteine, an amino acid which acts as a building block for selenoproteins (proteins which contain selenocysteine residues). Although structurally similar to cysteine, selenocysteine contains an atom of selenium (yellow) instead of sulphur. Other atoms are coloured dark grey (carbon), light grey (hydrogen), red (oxygen) and blue (nitrogen).
