Caption: A molecular model of tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF), a cytokine responsible for regulating immune cell activity by inducing fever, apoptosis and inflammation by binding to receptors located on cell membranes. Since TNF primarily causes an inflammatory response, certain autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis can worsen with a rise in TNF levels, and patients will often be given TNF inhibitors during treatment.
