Caption: Explorations in Borneo. 19th-century artwork showing the Norwegian explorer Carl Bock (1849-1932) crossing a tree trunk over the Benangan river in 1879 during his expedition in Borneo, part of the Malay Archipelago. He is followed by native porters carrying the expedition supplies. This area is inhabited by the Dayak (or Dyak) people. Artwork from 'The Head-hunters of Borneo' (London, 1881).
