Caption: Fairground in a Paris park, 19th-century artwork. This is the Carre Marigny square in Paris, France, in June 1848. From 1835, this square was the site of the Cirque des Champs-Elysees, with semi-permanent circus tents and fairground stalls. The advertising boards above the tents at right depict a snake charmer, an elephant, and monkeys. A small rotating wheel-ride is being operated at right. Engraving from 'Tableau de Paris' (1852) by Edmond Auguste Texier (1816-1887).
