It is thought that it depicts Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (the goddess the Romans called Venus). It has been attributed to Alexandros of Antioch. It was discovered in 1820 on the island of Milos, and since 1821 has been held at the Louvre Museum, Paris, France. This wood engraving dates from circa 1888.
