Caption: Polarised light micrograph of crystals of oxalic acid. Oxalic acid may be obtained from natural products such as wood sorrel and other members of the oxalis family, as potassium hydrogen oxalate: also, certain species of eucalyptus contain up to 20% calcium oxalate in their cells and cell walls. Oxalic acid ( a white, crystalline solid) is used in: (1) the preparation of esters and oxalates, (2) the purification of glycerol and stearates, (3) bleaching straw, (4) in inks and in rust removers, (5) in leather & textile industries, & (6) in dye manufacture. Mag: X25 (at 35mm size).
