Oxalic acid may be obtained from natural products such as wood sorrel and other members of the oxalis family, as potassium hydrogen oxalate: also, certain species of eucalyptus contain up to 20% calcium oxalate in their cells and cell walls. Oxalic acid ( a white, crystalline solid) is used in: (1) the preparation of esters and oxalates, (2) the purification of glycerol and stearates, (3) bleaching straw,(4) in inks and in rust removers, (5) in leather & textile industries, & (6) in dye manufacture.
