Caption: Polarised light micrograph of crystals of the amino acid N-benzoyl glycine. Its common name is hippuric acid because it was first obtained from the urine of horses. It was later obtained also from the urine of other animals, but not from human urine. Amino acids are organic compounds which form the building blocks from which proteins are made. Magnification: x10 at 35mm size.
