Caption: Botany illustrations, 19th century. These illustrations show inflorescences (top) and simple leaves (bottom). Inflorescences are clusters of flowers. Simple leaves are those where the leaf either forms a single blade, or is divided into lobes as opposed to the separate leaflets of compound leaves (see image C017/8063). This page is from 'Universal Technological Dictionary' (1823) by British author George Crabb (1778-1851).
